How do cricket fixtures work?
In cricket, you have three different types of match. The first is the traditional five day test match, that’s been played since 1877. With test cricket, the two teams face off across five days with two innings each. A full test will usually be played as a best of five, and this is the format of the Ashes for example.
The second format is one day cricket. Here the two sides will compete over one day, with each team facing 50 overs across one innings each. The innings will finish when the overs are complete or the team is bowled out. Examples of one day cricket include the One Day Cup and One Day Internationals.
The third and most recent form of cricket is T20. With T20, it’s similar to one day in that it’s a limited overs game, with each side facing just 20 overs in their innings. With so little balls faced it’s all about big hits and clocking up as many runs in as quick a time as possible. Forms of T20 cricket include the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Big Bash League in Australia, the ICC World Cup and the T20 Blast.
